Sunny view from my office!

This is more what we are used to. So much so that I thought the picture I posted at Christmas was way cool just because it was different. I never grow tired of the stunning beauty of these mountains even seeing them every day for 14 years – I am like a little kid; every day is unique and so beautiful.

The X-Games are here!!!!

This is the tenth year running that we have hosted the X-Games at Buttermilk. Over the years we have really streamlined the dichotomy between the X-Games and arguably North America’s best beginner mountain. It all runs so smoothly now and we have gorgeous peaceful skiing on the rest of Buttermilk. Some pics… Crazy snowmobilers!!!

ESPN has live coverage today through Sunday!

The Upside Down Tree

I have been teaching skiing at Aspen, based out of Buttermilk, since 1997. One day another instructor said to meet by the upside-down tree. I had skiied past it thousands of times and never really looked at it. Now I show everyone 🙂

World Cup in Aspen

As a ski instructor I was fortunate enough to be able to slip the World Cup course in Aspen again this Thanksgiving weekend. This means you go down the course sideways in sections between racers to smooth out the ruts they leave. You do this as fast as you can! It is a great way to start the season as nothing can scare you after that!!!! And you see the racers so close as they go by. It is a very early start. The staging area is in a restaurant that has not been used for a few seasons – here is a photo of the dawn from the restaurant deck…

And here is a photo of the slalom winner as she starts from the top…. Aspen looks so beautiful below.

Mastodons and Mammoths… oh my!

Over the last few weeks we in the Roaring Fork Valley have all been amazed and excited about the recent discovery of lots and lots of mastodon, mammoth and other Ice Age bones being found right here at Snowmass Village!!!! I went to see them when they had a display day but I had three children in tow (ages 4 to 10) and another 3000 people had the same idea resulting in a 2 hour wait so I have no photos to post. Here is a great article that describes the extent of this discovery so far – click here 🙂

Why buy now?

Why not wait to see if prices drop or interest rates fall further?

My new Shutterfly book!!!!

OK. This is a book I just made about one of our summer adventures. It does not have anything to do with Aspen but is fun to look at I think!

Halloween!

Halloween is so much fun in Aspen. People even get dressed up to go to work! We went trick-or-treating with the kids then went out in town. Incredible costumes…. here is a picture of me and a friend.

A fun month!

I can’t believe a whole month has gone by so fast! As well as working I have enjoyed some spectacular fall hikes. We also went to see Styx at a local venue which is quite small so we were so close to the band – a great night. Last Friday we went riding on the East Maroon Bells trail – what an awesome place this is!
