Hike to Crested Butte

This has become an annual hiking tradition for me and this is the first year that my daughter hiked too! The fall colours are peaking so it was truly stunning.

Avalanche Creek

Today it was another beautiful blue-sky fall day. Wanting serenity, solitude and water nearby I went for a short walk along Avalanche Creek. So beautiful and very calming.

The Amazing Effects of Low Interest Rates

This is my first blog post about Real Estate financial stuff and I do not intend to do it often but this stuff just blows me away! I just acquired an ancient financial calculator which had an actual manual with it. All home loan interest rates in the examples were between 14.5% and 16% which is what interest rates were then. So the payment on a $94,500 home loan over 30 years at 16% was horrendous ($1253.33/mth) – with interest at 4.5% you can borrow $247,358 for the same payment and have it paid off in exactly the same time! My point here being – better to borrow now and even pay more for the house (if you think prices are going down further) than wait until interest rates go up. You will buy more house for your monthly payment now over the same time period at low interest rates. Check out this calculator and manual picure.

Back to Thomas Lakes

And fall! Whole groves of aspen have turned gold. We went for a quick swim anyway. It was very invigorating. This hike is so close to where we live. It took us just under 2 hours to get to the lakes from the trailhead.

Jazz Aspen Snowmass

This last weekend was JAS. My daughter and I volunteered for the Greenteam. The Greenteam helps people to recycle including compostable items. On Saturday we saw the Courtyard Hounds – Stephi and I do love the Dixie Chicks – and they were great. Then Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh were awesome! On Sunday we saw the Black Crowes and Lynryd Skynryd. And we recycled a lot!

Yes it is expensive to live here but….

Friday morning I was working in my office. The river was calling, it was almost 80 degrees without a cloud in the sky and I realised that I could work later… so I got my IK and headed for the Roaring Fork. Today I saw a beautiful eagle and he soared right over my head. Just stunning. He did not come back for a picture but here are two from the river.

What a lovely place we live in

I was looking at property today in Aspen and was just blown away by how very beautiful it is here. So I took a picture to share with you. The bowl that is a sort of red colour in the back of the photo (I expanded it in the second photo) is the Highland Bowl where we ski a lot in the winter. It is hike-to terrain. It does look a lot steeper without snow on it! You can also see Castle Creek in the foreground.

A great day for a paddle.

Couldn’t resist the Roaring Fork today. I paddled a stretch where I often see bald eagles and blue herons but I didn’t see any today – just some cute ducks!
