Another hike in our backyard…

How lucky are we to live here! It was such a beautiful day I called a friend and we hiked to Thomas Lakes. The trailhead is only a 20 minute drive from my house. Here is a view of the first large lake.

Time for another raft trip…

There is nothing like river time. The last time I did this stretch of river it was flowing at nearly 5000cfs. This time it was under 1200cfs. So we camped along the way. Yarmony Grass music festival was happening this weekend and on our second day we floated along with approximately 200 other watercraft – including stand-up-paddle boards and floating bands!!! This is our campsite for Friday night.

What a hike!

A local wilderness society sponsored this free hike Sunday 15th August. 4500 vertical feet over 4 miles I think the hike leader said! My daughter was the second fastest in the group – right behind our guide who was 68 years old…. I guess I have some more years to get as fit as he is. This is the view from the top. The wildflowers were awesome at the higher altitudes.

Joe Cocker Concert

Wow! Joe Cocker played at the Delta County Fairgrounds July 6th. A scenic drive over McClure Pass from my home! He was awesome. My daughter thought so too.

Sheila (my dog) is happy to see snow again

I am working on getting some new pages up and running. As a new blogger this is a definite learning experience!!!! In the meantime I did my first fourteener last Sunday 6-13-10 (about time after having lived here for 13 years). Driving to the top is the way to go (grin)! Spectacular views but of course I had to take a picture of the Summit sign 🙂

And all that snow has to go somewhere!

So we went rafting!!!! Great day on the upper Colorado. Flowing at 4990cfs. I often raft this section at 1800cfs – so quite a different river. I’ve only done this section running this high once before. Lots of fun!

Independence Pass

I was so happy that Independence Pass opened on schedule by Memorial Day! I drove to Denver and back on 6-3-10. A fun, fast trip! There was still a lot of snow at the top – check out the photo!
