Skiing A-Basin May 28th!!!

My 138th day on snow for the 2014-2015 season! After waterskiing at Lake Powell over the Memorial Day Weekend what better to do than get another day of snow skiing in? Arapahoe Basin was the place to go. About 2.5 hours drive from Basalt (3 from Aspen) A-Basin was still open with lots of snow so off we went! What a great day!!! We were able to get some great runs in Montezuma Bowl (which closed on June 3), skiied some awesome moguls, experienced sun, snow showers, more sun and met lots of ski instructors. It seemed like almost everyone on the hill taught somewhere! We just can’t get enough 🙂 As it was Thursday there were not many people skiing – just a perfect day.

Lake Powell Memorial Day Weekend :)

Yay waterskiing!!!!! I sadly did not get to waterski at all last year so I was wildly excited when friends announced they were renting a houseboat for a 50th birthday and had two ski boats available! It is around a 6 hour drive from Basalt to Bullfrog (about 6.5 from Aspen). The water was warmer than I expected – nice surprise. The lake seemed lower than I would have thought… There were hardly any people there which really was surprising. The staff at Bullfrog were super helpful and friendly and we all got some great time in on the water 🙂 🙂

Our Beautiful Valley

On Realtor Tour we stopped for lunch at Aspen Glen (about 35 minutes from Aspen) at a gorgeous property that is currently for sale. The view from the patio deck was so stunning that I just had to take a photo looking down the Roaring Fork river towards Glenwood Springs. The colours in the landscape as seen from the patio were incredible. So lucky to live and work in this valley!

Fresh tracks at Highlands

Wow – after 9:30am and fresh tracks down Mushroom! When I got to the Deep Temerity chair the guys said they had only seen two patrollers then me at the lift so far! Where is everyone? Enjoying the powdery solitude 🙂

Easter Sunrise Service

One of our favourite local annual events is the Easter Sunrise Service held at the top of Aspen Mountain. You’ll see half the town in the Sundeck having a great breakfast both before and after the service. Many (if not most) people are in their ski clothes which keeps us warm during the service and then we are ready for skiing 🙂

Slide in Highlands Bowl

Wow! Some skiers entered a closed area and set off multiple slides in the Bowl. I went to look and was stunned by the scope of the slides. Some of the peaked “snow castles” you can see in the pictures seemed to be almost 18 feet tall although it was hard to tell exactly as of course the area was roped off.

Sunsets in Basalt

One of my favourite things about living in Basalt is the incredible sunsets. Last night was so stunning that I just had to take photos to post! Basalt is in the upper half of the Roaring Fork Valley; about 20 minutes from Aspen, 20 minutes to Carbondale and about 30 minutes to Glenwood Springs.

St Regis Aspen Christmas Tree Lighting

I took my daughter to the tree lighting at the St Regis. I think this was their third annual tree lighting but we had not been before. It was such an amazing experience for kids and adults – thank you St Regis!!!!! We will go again next year – if you are in town don’t miss this!

And it just keeps getting better (skiing)

Can you believe this coverage on the 26th of November? And it was warm even though it doesn’t look like it. I skiied in just a really light underjacket! This photo is taken on Lift 3 Aspen Mountain (Ajax Express). The gondola is in the background.

Skiing on the 22nd November!

Aspen Skiing Company opened Aspen Mountain (Ajax) early because of the stellar conditions! Thank you SkiCo! What a great view of Highlands Bowl from the top of Aspen Mountain – I never get tired of this view…. I must have taken this same picture a hundred times 🙂
