Riding, waterfalls and waterskiing!

Looking at my post from this weekend last year I see that we went rafting and skiing all in the same weekend. There was lots of water and lots of snow. A very different story this year.

The section we rafted this time last year at around 30000 cfs (Ruby Horsethief) is now running under 4000 cfs. The upper Colorado (Yarmony) where we rafted May 23, 2011 at around 4500 cfs is now at 393 cfs – Yikes. And there is definitely no skiing on Aspen Mountain which is currently open for frisbee golf!

So we went riding at Mt. Sopris and did the Hay Park Trail which runs off the Thomas Lakes trail on Saturday, then went camping with friends at Rifle Falls on Sunday. Monday we met up with other friends at Rifle Gap for possible waterskiing. It was a bit too choppy for me to ski but the kids had fun tubing and surfing and Mike did some waterskiing and surfing too. Rifle Gap is pretty but I forgot to take any pictures so here are pictures of riding and the falls:)

About Bronwyn

Hi. I moved to the Aspen area from Australia in 1997 and have a daughter born right here in Aspen in 2000. I teach skiing (for the past eighteen seasons) and am a Real Estate Advisor with Engel & Völkers Roaring Fork.. I love to ski, snowboard, horse-ride, raft, and hike with our dog Sheila. This valley offers so much and one day I may also take up golf or fishing!
