Aspen Mountain reminding me of Mt Hutt!

Today skiing at Aspen totally reminded me of skiing at Mt. Hutt in New Zealand. At Mt. Hutt you get theses amazing views of farmland without snow as you ski down the slopes – almost surreal. Today looking down Ruthie’s run to town gave me that exact same feeling. Blue skies, spring weather, white snow – what a great day!

Sandhill Cranes

Today I took my daughter to see the annual Sandhill Crane migration near Eckert. The local Audubon Society was running two buses over so we went with them. We were so lucky to see hundreds of cranes coming in to land for the night. They land almost like they are parachuting in. I am including a link to an article in the local paper which originally had many great photos attached to it but also has great information about the migration.

Highlands Bowl….

This last Saturday I got to hike the Bowl again. A picture perfect day so I took some! From the Bowl you can see Pyramid Peak and the Maroon Bells. The view along the ridge at the top reminds me of Europe. Here you are at over 12,300 feet. Then I skiied down the line known as Ozone. I stopped part way down just under a tree island to take another photo. It always amazes me how when you take photos of steep things (like Capitol Peak from Capitol Lake) close up they don’t look as steep as they really are. So I took another one from further away. If you look for the same tree island in the middle of the photo then for the rocks to the left in the photo that is where I skiied.. just to skiiers left of that line created by the rocks. Some moguls in the Bowl – lol- unusual to find them there at the bottom of Ozone. You are skiing down a little over 2500 feet of vertical here… truly awesome!

Pyramid Peak and the Maroon Bells

Today I was skiing at Highlands and was yet again just stunned by the beauty of these peaks. I have been taking photos of this view for 20 years now and just don’t seem to ever have taken enough!

Wow – Time flies! Happy New Year!

I cannot believe it has been over 2 months since I posted on this page. I have been keeping the Market Reports page up to date but missed by 4 days this month so huge apologies to those who viewed it – it is up to date now! Interestingly our absorption rate (in months) in real estate valley wide almost halved in the last year!!!!! I think that is truly incredible. You will find the details on the Market Reports page – click on Market Summary.

I have been extremely busy with a 3.5 week visit from my mother followed by a 3 week visit from my father! Lots of showings of real estate. Also my little ballerina had her Nutcracker performance and simultaneously started training for the mogul competitions that start this weekend! I coached at a race camp at Copper Mountain over the Thanksgiving week then started teaching skiing here in Aspen. We seem to have arguably the best snow around so are actually super busy! I will try to add a picture to this post later.

Thank you all for checking in with this blog – I am truly humbled by my site stats and appreciate each and every one of you. Happy New Year 🙂

The Last Rafting Trip of the Season….

Mid October and the time has come for the last rafting trip for this summer. Taking advantage of the beautiful weather we headed to Utah. We put in at the old Dewey Bridge and shuttled the trailers to Takeout Beach. This is one of my favourite stretches of the Colorado River and I can’t believe it’s been about 18 months since I was last here. We pretty much had the river to ourselves and camped opposite Onion Creek on a lovely sandy beach where we spent a lazy layover day. The campsite had stunning views of Castle Valley including Fisher Towers and the snowy peaks of La Sal mountains in the background. The weather held and we were really glad we went. I have never been down here at this time of year before. The river is low and running slowly and the fall colours are beautiful – this may become an annual tradition!

Fall means Thomas Lakes

I guess by now you will realise that Thomas Lakes is one of my favourite trails and destination. The lakes lie at the bottom of Mt. Sopris which is nearly 13,000 feet high. Only 20 minutes drive from my house it is a must for fall colours. This was the first time I have ridden it on horseback – watch out for low hanging branches!!!! These pictures really do not do the colours justice but do give some idea of the beauty of this area 🙂

Beyond Lenado…

A new adventure! Despite having lived here for 14 years now I have never gone up to Lenado. Lenado lies in a valley between Aspen (Roaring Fork) and the Frying Pan valleys. So we went up past Lenado on a public road and saw some truly beautiful fall colours. From the top of a hill we could see the ski runs on Aspen Mountain and the ski runs on Aspen Highlands plus also Pyramid Peak and the Maroon Bells! Looking further downvalley we could also see Capitol Peak and Sopris Mountain.  Even for this area that is just a truly amazingly breathtaking view!
